Matthew Harrell

Matthew joined Restoration Systems in 2018 as a Senior Habitat Ecologist. He has worked on habitat restoration and protection projects from every angle, with significant experience in the private sector as well as government and nonprofit positions. His thoughtful and dedicated approach helps ensure that projects consistently meet and exceed success criteria.

In the office, Matthew draws on strong research and GIS skills as well as project planning and cost estimation experience. In the field he keeps projects on track with a strong background in ecology and enjoys collaborating with landowners in the restoration process. He is an NC Certified Prescribed Burner and lifetime member of the NC Prescribed Fire Council, licensed herbicide applicator, and active member of the NC Chapter of The Wildlife Society. 

A native of Middlesex, NC, Matthew earned an Environmental Studies degree from the University of North Carolina. He has always enjoyed both open water and wetlands, and has a personal goal to paddle all the major rivers of NC.
