Pressmen Stream & Wetland Restoration Restores Water Resources In Tennessee
Davey Mitigation restored more than 16,000 linear feet of stream channel at Pressmen’s Home in Rogersville, Tennessee, as part of a mitigation bank.
Pressmen’s Home in Rogersville, TN was the headquarters of the International Printing Pressmen and Assistants Union of North America from 1911 to 1967. It included community buildings like a post office, chapel, and trade school, a hydroelectric power production plant, telecommunication utilities, and other facilities that made it a self-sufficient community.
The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district.
The Challenge
Streams on the 80.42 acres of the former golf course were heavily altered and channelized, and the undesirable conditions of the site caused severe water quality issues, habitat degradation, and loss of riparian buffers.
In September 2024, Davey Mitigation began stream restoration and stream bank re-establishment work on-site.
The Solution
Davey Mitigation restored and re-established 16,374 linear feet of the main stream’s channel by correcting its course. The team also performed wetland restoration work on 19.5 acres of land, wetland enhancements on 4.3 acres of land, and created an additional 5.7 acres of wetland on the site.
Construction was completed in the spring of 2025, and Davey will monitor the site for continued improvements.
The Results
After construction, the site generated mitigation banking credits handled by Davey Mitigation that can be purchased by different entities and used to offset impacts in other watersheds in the area.
